The Making of a Marc

The New Google Killer?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

You may have heard of the “semantic web”… it’s a method of classifying information on the web, usually via human supplied tags, in order to help make pages and posts easier to find. Today found True Knowledge, a UK startup that is creating a smarter search engine.

For example, if you were to ask Google, “how old is the United States?”, the top result comes from Yahoo! Answers, where a human being answered the question. True Knowledge is seeking to build a search engine that can decipher the information on a web page, and give you a straight up answer, rather than an extensive list of links and a hearty, “Good luck!”

Here’s the video, which explains it far better than I ever could:

The site is currently in beta testing. If you want to participate, just go to True Knowledge, and request an account.

If True Knowledge can do what they propose, Google and all the other search engines will be instantly obsolete, but more importantly, we won’t have to learn the arcade code of search engine queries in an attempt to get some basic facts. The internet will work for us, as it should.
